2024…The Year You Must Get On TikTok

Hey friends, Brooke Vescio here! For the past week, I feel like this is all I have talked about – On Discovery Calls, in Strategy Calls, on Stories, in our Multiplieddd team meeting, in social posts, the list goes on. I will say it til I can’t anymore. I DEEPLY believe that TikTok is the place to be (and HAS been the place to be) if you’re a Creator, a business owner, or you’re marketing your business on social media. 

When I talk to people about TikTok, the conversation often consists of clients saying…

“I just don’t understand TikTok! What do I even post?”

“Isn’t TikTok just for young people?”

“Is my ideal client even on TikTok?”

“TikTok overwhelms me.”

If you can relate, keep reading. I will lay it ALL out for you.

First, let’s break that belief you’re holding on to. TikTok isn’t just for young people, TikTok is populated by 150M users in the United States ALONE, and on average, those 150M users watch 1.5 hours of TikTok per DAY. 24% of TikTok users are women aged 18-24, 31% of users are 25-34 years old, 16.4% of users are 30-39 years old, and 7% of users are 50+. 
 
If your target audience is over the age of 30, you might be thinking…”Such a small percentage of TikTok users are in my age group.” Take 16.4% of 150M users, you get 24,600,000 users in your target audience. On top of that, remember that this platform is growing rapidly, and YOU could get in NOW to become a key player in your area of expertise within your target audience’s demographic BEFORE it grows larger. In 2024, TikTok is predicted to grow by 9%, and in 2025, it’s predicted to grow by 7%. That’s a nearly 20% increase in 2 years. 

Moral of the story?

There's potential for you - no matter who your target audience is…on TikTok.

Instagram has 2.4 BILLION users on the platform, so it’s important to stay present and relevant there. That said, I believe that TikTok is the way of the future. The growth the platform has had over that last 3-4 years is astounding. Users are loyal to the platform and they rave about it. The algorithm is as SMART as they come. I’m a big fan. 

So…the million dollar question - What do I post on TikTok?

At Multiplieddd, Madie our Founder/Co-CEO, Ariana our Trends Expert and I have studied the platform and here’s what we’re seeing works: 

Relatability

Connection is key on TikTok. There’s no need to put up a facade, be done up or spend tons of time on your content on TikTok. Your videos should be candid, in the moment, raw and real.

Imperfection

Unlike Instagram, you don’t need the perfect graphics, aesthetics, or crazy high quality video. TikTok users prefer the unpolished.

Opinions

Opinions/hot takes grab attention and HOLD attention. Don’t share the same message everyone else is sharing. Be bold, step out and take a stance.

Subtle selling

TikTok is more of a reach platform than a conversion platform like Instagram. The algorithm doesn’t push content that says “head to the link in my bio” or “drop a ❤️ to get ___”. That said, you can still sell by creating niche specific content. TikTok users are known to head to the link in your bio, click the Instagram button to find you and DM you over there, etc. TikTok buyers are SMART buyers. They don’t need you to tell them what to do and they will only buy if they feel connected to you.

Presenting yourself as a WHOLE person (if your brand has ONE face)

Don’t put yourself in a box. Create content people can relate to regardless if it’s about what you sell. For example, if you’re a Realtor, show people how you balance your family responsibilities with your business/client responsibilities or tell a story about how you got started in real estate. Let people see the HUMAN behind the business. Your content doesn’t always have to be about real estate education or listings. It’s necessary, but people don’t necessarily connect with that. Realtor Steevie Soucie does a good job with this!

Designating a spokesperson or 2 (if your brand has multiple faces - example: a larger corporation or a team of 5+)

Pick 1 or 2 people to be the face of your TikTok so users can build a relationship with the personalities. Check out No Good as a REALLY good example.

Content that gets people a quick win

Create content your ideal client can save and actually apply to their lives. Monitor the saves and shares you get on your content to see what people are liking the most!
